01 · Overview

One ward. Many connected communities.

Ward 4 is a geographic, residential, civic, commercial, institutional, and natural-resource community within Washington, DC. This Teamification treats Ward 4 itself as the container - not the Ward 4 Council office, District government, or the Rock Creek East Planning Area alone.

Chapter 22 of the DC Comprehensive Plan describes Rock Creek East as a 7.4-square-mile planning area and states that most of it has historically been in Ward 4, although portions have been in Ward 5. Because ward and planning-area boundaries are not identical, this page uses Chapter 22 as detailed planning context while treating the current Ward 4 boundary as the governing geographic container.

The source recognizes communities including Petworth, Brightwood, Brightwood Park, Takoma, Shepherd Park, Manor Park, Lamond and Lamond-Riggs, Crestwood, 16th Street Heights, Colonial Village, North Portal, Kennedy Street, Upper Georgia Avenue, Central 14th Street, Walter Reed, and areas connected to Fort Totten.
